Think Lean…Think Deep…Think Through
It was middle 2019, Atul came to me at my office after taking proper appointment through mail. He confessed that, he had an idea and was working on thet idea along with Sudhansu, one of his batchmet and both of them are from Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Kharagpur. He discussed the idea and to me very frankly, idea was not new as similar thoughts were being discussed in our classes very often.
He suggested that, He and Sudhanshu wanted to launch a platform ” Nectar Technology” linking the students in campus with the industry who require some interns time to time on some identified projects. Generally this work is being done by the institutes to place their students in organizations. What is the uniqueness? I asked. Atul was not very clear, and he told that students could earn while learning. This actually struc me well, and we started brainstorming on the thought. Atul used to come with his note book initially and then a note-pad to write my comments, thoughts. I was not very sure about how much they could apply on line.
2020, the year of Pandemic, lockdown, online teaching. Myself with Atul and Sudhanshu shared many meetings discussing the developments in the projects, their incubation possibilities, and many other dimensions. Atul and Sudhanshu started connecting the seniors from IIT Kharagpur overseas, who could help them financially and bring value to the venture. By this time, they collected many users mainly from the campuses from other engineering colleges. They have already built a MVP of the platform for meeting of different stakeholders.
2021, We continued our discussions on a soft launching at IIT Kharagpur. By this time, they were confident of users from both the sides. This led to the success. the intern hiring platform Cuvette Tech raised USD180K from Titan Capital as Lead Investor.
Drawing as many think that a faculty of Art. May be so. But, if we only keep it special for the Artists, then we will miss larger opportunies. Drawing is the medium of expression and a powerful expression as we have experienced in our daily activities. Many a time we draw a map, or draw a plan on the board, where otherwise it would be difficult to express pnly though words. So, Drawing can also be classified as Language. Ralph Ammer says it nicely in this video.
We use this technique very well in our teaching pedagaugy, in the black board drawing method. It’s very popular technique in case method of teaching. The followings are the outcomes of expression;
Intuition: Intuition leads to think, conceptualize and present some idea or expression, which otherwise may be difficult to have logical understanding and reasoning. In most of the cases, these decisions based on intuitions are proven to be correct (!!!) and better than the decisions based on logics and reasoning. Drawing helps to express those intuitive thinking.
Attention: Drawing definitely attracts to the attention of people (as common saying ‘a picture says thousands of words’) for better visualization and cognitive understanding. It’s a very coomon and effective tools for good teaching.
Reflection: Relections are bouncing the ideas or thoughts within the same plane before it’s get expressed to others. Drawing helps this process. The intellectual minds draw the variables, constants and linkages through a drawing in mind or in external media.
Imagination: Imagination helps to extend the thoughts beyond limits. It’s required for creativity and innovation. Drawing helps the mind to extend its limits and present to others.
Communication: Finally, all the above points direct towards better communication toa subject in a shared platform for better and sinchronized understanding.
So, its’s important to use drawing as a powerfull tool for thinking, imagining, analysing, understanding, and communicating.
