Our world is flat with inequity

In recent outbreak of global pandemic, we are more techno-friendly today. From IITs to rural Universities, from convent schools to local primary schools are accessing mobile network for continuimg education. It’s really a welcome change. All our meetings and discussions taking course through online media. Our expressions of thoughts got a new window called the social media. The knowlledge becomes accessible to everyone paying a smart mobile and internet package. The 4G network made it more interesting with downloadable video and photographs. The celebrities are directly connecting to their fans and getting feedbacks. Anyone now can claim his expertise through openly criticizing anyone in the world of deceision makings. And, truly we can calim that- World is Flat!!!

Let’s get into data. India the second largest internet market in the world after China (prediction by 2023; https://www.statista.com/topics/2157/internet-usage-in-india/) claims to be having 560 million people using internet. The number is growing phenomenally and expected to reach 650 million by 2023. The sea change happen in last five years!!! The 27% internet accessibility has reached to 50% within this time span. The 2019, data reveals that 290 million users in India are from rural Bharat, where 337 millions from urban and semi-urban market. The users mostly (35%) are youth withing the age bracket 20-29 years. It’s also skewed and male dominated as expected. The internet users using through mobile in this category and should reach to 500 million people will access internet through mobile by 2023. Great!!!

June, 2. 2020; A tribal girl of 14 years of age committed suicide after not attending the online classes (Phenomenon!!!). Devika is no more to get consoled or to be complemented with any emppathy. It’s a hard reality of inequity today in the society. More we are using technology, more we should be responsible to look upon the adaptability, accessibility, and affordability of the developments. There are many people, organization, CSR funds and institutions are trying to bridge the gap, but that’s not enough. We need to be more pro-active and inclusive in our approach. We need to be more responsible in making ourselves raedy to innovate such new technology which is ‘Appropriate’. The approach towards making ‘Appropriate’ would echo the followings in the inequitable world:

Accessibility

Affordability

Approachability

Acceptability

Adaptability

Let’s work together towards this ditrection. We have created a Lab with our research scholars, BTech. and M. Tech students based on this philosophy called Techno-Entrepreneurship Lab (TEL Lab) https://www.facebook.com/groups/230491557646475/events/
